1890 photo of the Old Mysore Palace:

This palace was destroyed in a fire in 1897. The fire could not be controlled because Wood was the main material used in the Old Palace due to which fire spread rapidly and brought the whole palace down in no time.

After the destruction, the King of Mysore commissioned a British architect, Henry Irwin to build another palace in its place and it was completed in 1912 at a cost of Rs 41 lakh. It is the new palace which now stands as the Symbol of Mysore and is a treat to watch...................
